Ion Plus
Ion Plus is a division of Ion Science Ltd dedicated to hydrogen flux measurement tools, applications and research.
Ion Plus is a division of Ion Science Ltd that was created as a separate entity in 2000 as the company's research arm dedicated to hydrogen flux investigation and the development of flux measurement technology and instrumentation.
Hydrogen flux through steel is a known cause cracking in, for example, pipe lines, vessels and storage tanks. It is also a direct consequence of certain types of corrosion. The identification and measurement of flux has great benefits as it provides a measure of corrosion activity due to particular corrodants such as hydrogen sulfide and any acid at elevated temperatures (>150 °C). Other applications for the measurement of hydrogen flux include monitoring the effectiveness of corrosion control and corrosion barriers and the assessment of the risk associated with hydrogen induced cracking (HIC) and embrittlement.
To identify and measure hydrogen flux, Ion Plus has developed 'Hydrosteel' and launched Hydrosteel 6000, a portable roaming tool for spot flux measurement at NACE 2000. Due to the success of the portable instrument it soon became clear there was a demand for a fixed monitor at highly critical sites, culminating in the development of Hydrosteel 7000 which is now available.
